Who Am I
“I am planted in the soil of my ancestors”
Creative force behind FUGAWI, Morghan Bradshaw draws design inspiration from stories that speak to experience, belief and history. The clothes she creates are purposefully designed to explore stories about the worlds and people that intersect with her own. Words or phrases that evoke a particular story play a fundamental role in her designs, becoming declarations of belief and affiliation as well as serving as the wearer’s proclamation to be seen. As a label FUGAWI is about embracing the spectrum of human identity by capturing an energy or narrative. The label cares about ensuring that all people are represented and can see themselves in some of the more feminine silhouettes right through to their range of oversized, structured masculine forms. Morghan says “I don’t really design to a masculine or feminine ideal. Instead I want FUGAWI to capture different energies and narratives – if you were walking down the street how would others’ visually receive you and understand you without communication or interaction. I guess this goes back to how people want to exist or feel seen. “
