“Lalaga means to weave. I love how sharing stories has the power weave people together .”
A card game inspired by Pacific talanoa, fostering connection through shared stories
Samoan producer, film-maker, and community activist Torisse Laulu has spent over a decade creating safe spaces for sharing stories and connection. Through her work bringing communities together for conversation and connection through talanoa sessions, she has fostered courageous conversations and created empathy across communities, inspiring her to explore talanoa as a powerful tool for meaningful connection.
Driven by a vision to bring people together, Torisse spent two years developing Lalaga through deep research and consultation with Pacific cultural knowledge-holders. The result is more than a game, it is a way to share truths, deepen relationships, and nurture genuine connection.
Lalaga features five levels of varying depths, from gentle icebreakers to profound prompts. Giving players the flexibility to customise conversations that honour vulnerability and respect. Whether with family, friends, or colleagues, Lalaga transforms any gathering into a relational space of authenticity and alofa.
