Mamaku Skin – Founders Tessa, Adele & Karen
Sisters | Rongoā-Inspired Skincare | Rooted in Aotearoa
Meet the sisters behind Mamaku Skin: Tessa Davis, Adele Anderson, and Karen Renata. Raised in Waimārama, guided by the wisdom of their kaumātua, and driven by their own struggles with sensitive skin, these three wāhine created a natural, functional skincare brand that honours both modern science and traditional Māori healing.
Mamaku Skin harmonises rongoā (traditional Māori medicine) with contemporary formulation, a fresh approach born from over a decade of personal experience with eczema, rosacea, and everyday sensitivities. The sisters witnessed loved ones suffer, yet found few products that truly respected the skin and the environment. So they made their own.
Deeply rooted in te ao Māori, every Mamaku product begins with a karakia (prayer) of gratitude to Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) and to the native Mamaku fern, a plant revered as a tuākana (elder) and a gift from the forest. The sisters sustainably wild-harvest or cultivate ingredients on Māori-owned lands, ensuring traceability, authenticity, and the preservation of mauri (life force) from plant to bottle.
From the sandy shores of Waimārama to the heart of Aotearoa's native forests, Mamaku Skin weaves a narrative of respect for the past, commitment to the present, and responsibility for the future. Their vision is to share te ao Māori with a global audience, offering skincare that heals, connects, and uplifts both people and the planet.
