Inspired by the form of the kūtai (shellfish), this piece reflects the nurturing relationship between mother and child — a connection shaped by care, protection, and interdependence. Carved from black jade, the dual form speaks to closeness and continuity, where one supports and shelters the other.

Drawing from the traditions of mātaitai, the design also acknowledges the importance of sustenance, community, and the passing down of knowledge through generations. It is a reminder that survival and strength are never individual, but shared.
