Whirikoka Deer Antler Necklace

$931.95

A beautiful addition to our Anake collection is Whirikoka.  Our unisex deer antler tāhei (necklace)

The antler shape assimulates a waka (canoe) with a series of koru in representation of people on board, both old and young.  Pāua pieces are the colours of the ocean lapping up against the sides of the waka. Above the middle pāua, no koru are represented.  This space purposefully left free to align with the upoko(head) of the wearer, the navigator!  He/she is a leader whom holds knowledge to unify and navigate people in the right direction.

The ethically sourced antler has been entirely handmade.   The exterior sanded down and using a sharpened blade of pounamu the koru patterns have been carved in.  Embelished with slithers of authentic New Zealand pāua shells for the inlay.  Your desired length is set by the adjustable waxed necklace cord.

The intention behind the design

Named for the attributes of the wearer, Whirikoka means strength.  To draw on ones own strength to help bring guidance and leadership through building meaningful relationships.

Why we love it

This design is an exclusive wearable piece that embodies it's own story.  The taonga (treasure) is a natural form of New Zealand heritage that carries a deeply personal value for the wearer.  As a one off design it is not seen anywhere else in the world.  A perfect addition for collectors and nature lovers whom love something unique.
