Tuasivi
$69.00 - $115.00
'Tuasivi' is the Samoan translation for spine.
Tuasivi is one of the five designs featured in the 'Tino/Body' series, showcasing motifs that are prominent throughout the Pacific, particularly in Samoa. A series I created to symbolise the strength and significance of various body parts.
This particular design represents the spine or backbone, with its patterns likened to strands of DNA. Each column of motifs symbolizes genealogy/whakapapa, reflecting the deep-rooted connections to our Pacific heritage. Just as DNA encodes our biological identity, these patterns are intricately woven into our cultural backbone, embodying who we are and the significance of our Pacific ancestral lineage.
