Kāpeu Kawakawa Pounānmu

Inspired by the traditional Kāpeu, this necklace reinterprets the elegant, tapered pendant as a piece worn around the neck rather than the ear. In classic Māori adornment, the Kāpeu was often carved from pounamu and worn as a sign of prestige, passed down through generations. My version honours this legacy while offering a contemporary take – shaped with clean, flowing lines that capture the essence of movement and connection. The form remains true to its origins, with a slight curve that speaks to the fluidity of time, tides, and lineage. A wearable piece of history, this Kāpeu necklace holds both mana and modernity, bridging tradition and the present with quiet strength.
