Cockle — Pounamu Pendant

$293.00 - $376.00

Cockle Kahurangi Green Black Cord

A quiet reflection of the shoreline, shaped by the rhythms of gathering, connection, and care.

Inspired by the cockle, a familiar shellfish found along the shores of Aotearoa, this piece draws from the everyday practice of mātaitai — the careful gathering of kai from the moana. It speaks to a way of living grounded in respect for the environment, where sustenance, knowledge, and connection are shared across generations.

Each pendant is carved from pounamu, with subtle variations in tone and form that reflect the individuality of the stone. The smooth, curved shape echoes the natural shell, while the cord. Handwoven in either toi toi or black braid, anchors the piece in both tradition and contemporary wear.

Simple yet deeply considered, this is a taonga that carries the essence of place, a reminder of the relationship between people, whenua, and sea.

This piece is made to order. Please allow up to 2 weeks for creation and dispatch.
